The dogs which will be featured on these pages are mainly Staffordshire Bull Terriers, however they will not usually be the sort seen winning at most of todays dog shows staged by the British Kennel Club. The dogs featured were not bred for their rose ear, tail carriage or dark eye, many people may find some of the dogs ugly if they are more used to the show type stafford while others may prefer the dogs featured here.
The dogs featured were bred with temperament as the foremost factor hence colours which are not commonly seen and indeed banned from Kennel Club shows are featured as with these dogs such minor details are not worth mentioning as a good dog can not be a bad colour.
Handsome is as handsome does
The types of dog featured
There will be several strains of dog featured on this site and i will not keep a good dog off here because of its breeding.some of the main strains in no particular order are...KC dogs (athletic dogs bred for old type temperament, not just to be pretty show dogs),Psycho strain (named after the famous Irish dog who carried a small percentage of EBT blood),Dublin Red Strain which as the name implies also came from Irish stock as well as O'flynn stock which also from the emerald isle.It has to be remembered that these Irish strains actually go back to British show stock of the 50's and 60's but as the Irish dogs were tested for gameness in Badger trials (ran by the Irish Kennel Club) the dogs bred there tended to be of a more hardier and aggressive type with a bit more athleticism than the more commonly seen show type.
Personally i tend to prefer dogs built on the pre 1948 breed standard which asked for a rangier built animal than todays show standard but having said that some dogs featured could fit the new standard if they are good dogs in every other way that is all that counts and really good dogs can make the most of whatever they have got.
